What is urgent care?
Urgent care is medical diagnosis and treatment for a range of unexpected and less serious illnesses and medical situations. Urgent care is designed for health conditions that are not life-threatening but need treatment within 24 hours.
Most Family Care Specialists Medical Group offices are open Monday through Saturday, and a doctor is always available on-call after hours to help you get the care you need.
Why do I need urgent care?
Urgent care isn’t designed to treat broken bones, severe burns, or serious health problems, such as difficulty breathing or major bleeding. However, urgent care can help if you or a loved one have one or more of these symptoms:
- Sore throat
- Cough
- Runny nose
- Nausea
- Fever
- Fatigue
- Swollen glands
- Aches and pains
What does urgent care treat?
Urgent care is designed to treat illnesses that hit you out of the blue – but aren’t severe enough to need emergency care. Here are the most common reasons you might need urgent care from Family Care Specialists Medical Group:
A common cold
A cold generally builds up over a few days, getting worse and worse. Common symptoms include a runny nose, sore throat, sneezing, coughing, and headaches.
A sore throat
A sore throat can be caused by a virus or by bacteria such as strep throat. Your provider at Family Care Specialists Medical Group will determine the source of your sore throat by taking a culture.
Bronchitis
Bronchitis is an inflammation of the airways leading to your lungs. You’ll usually have a persistent, wet cough with bronchitis.
Urgent care can also help with other ailments, including:
- Urinary tract infections
- Sinus infections
- Ear infections
- Pink eye
- Skin infections
- Mononucleosis
What can I expect from an urgent care visit?
Your provider at Family Care Specialists Medical Group will quickly assess your symptoms. They’ll ask when your symptoms started and how long you’ve been feeling this way. They’ll want to know about your medical history, including any medications you’re taking. If it’s likely you have an infection, your provider takes swabs or samples to send to the lab for testing.
You’ll be provided with treatment to set you on the path to recovery. The goal at Family Care Specialists Medical Group is to help you feel 100% again as soon as possible.
If you think you might have an infection or illness, it’s time to get an accurate diagnosis and treatment from the health care practitioners at Family Care Specialists Medical Group.
