Q: You have experience in both hands-on work and medicine. How does this unique background help you relate to patients from diverse working backgrounds?
A: You know, coming from a blue-collar background really helps me connect with all kinds of people. Those years of hands-on work taught me about hard work, resilience, and how to relate to folks from all walks of life. It's that common ground that lets me connect with patients on a more personal level, no matter their situation.
Q: As someone who has taught at various levels, how do you approach explaining complex medical information to your patients?
I really believe in making sure patients learn something from each visit. Take lab results, for example. I'll go through them one by one, explaining not just what each test is for, but what it actually means for the patient. Sometimes, I'll even sketch out a quick diagram – like when I'm explaining gallstones. And I always make sure to give patients a chance to ask questions. That back-and-forth is crucial.
Q: Your bio mentions you're passionate about community health. Can you share an example of how this passion translates into your day-to-day interactions with patients?
A: Every time I see a patient, I'm aiming to provide the most comprehensive care possible. I'll review their chart thoroughly, making sure we're on top of all their preventive care and ongoing health needs. That might mean scheduling screening labs, updating immunizations, doing physicals, or just taking the time for some patient education.
Q: As an osteopathic physician, you take a holistic approach to health. What might this mean for a patient in terms of their overall care experience with you?
A: As an osteopathic doctor, I've got some extra tools in my toolkit, especially when it comes to the musculoskeletal (MSK) system. I use osteopathic manipulative medicine to assess and treat MSK complaints, which can be really effective. But it's more than that – I'm always looking at the big picture of a patient's health, including their physical, mental, and social well-being. It's about treating the whole person, not just a set of symptoms.
Q: You're skilled in various procedures like Nexplanon insertion and skin biopsies. How does offering these services in a primary care setting benefit your patients?
A: It's all about convenience and timely care for my patients. Being able to do things like Nexplanon insertions or skin biopsies right here in the office means patients don't have to wait or run around to different specialists for these services. It's just one more way we try to make healthcare more accessible and efficient for all.
